On February 23, 2016, Detroit City Council will honor The Powerful Women (Meagan Ward, Brittni Brown, Toni Jones, Jasmine Dantzler, Kimberly Brown-Dobine) for their work within the community, and serving as an ambassador in the new renaissance of women’s empowerment.
In the midst of Detroit’s rebirth, a emergent sisterhood is being recognized for it’s dedication to molding a dynamic network of women leaders throughout Metro-Detroit and beyond.
When Meagan Ward founded The Powerful Women in 2013, it was built on a desire to serve womankind. Meagan, who has been featured in Black Enterprise & Huffington Post for her personal entrepreneurial journey, works collectively with four Detroit-based female entrepreneurs who form the The Powerful Women’s executive board. The world-renowned organization, therefore, aims to cultivate a culture of excellence for women through high standards and accountability.The organization is described as, “A unique troop of fabulously fierce, yet like-minded individuals who are on a journey to self-discovery”.
With dedication and tireless effort, The Powerful Women has blossomed. The organization has hosted six sold-out events including creatively planned luncheons and workshops. The Powerful Women hosts it’s signature conference, The Powerful Women’s Weekend, which converges attendees from Michigan and across the country.This event creates an atmosphere perfect for fostering unity. The Powerful Women’s Weekend has become known worldwide for its ability to instill confidence plus inspire personal and professional development among attendees. The weekend will take place June 25-26th at The Henry Hotel in Dearborn, Michigan.
The group recently launched their signature photo campaign titled “The Power Table”. This innovative photo campaign has become a staple for celebrating women in diverse professional areas who radiate the living definition of what it means to be a powerful woman. This year’s campaign featured, Melissa Butler (CEO of The Lip Bar), Kristin Pierce (Reporter, WXYZ-7 Detroit) and Councilwoman Mary Sheffield (Youngest elected member of Detroit City Council).
