America, we literally just put the truth back in power. As racist, classist, sexist & elitist as that truth may be, it is our current truth and the present American narrative. Allowing this truth to fully unfold might be the only path leading to a full resolution. Perhaps this election result was necessary to fully grapple with that reality.

President Obama provided 8 years of political euphoria. The painful truth of the president-elect is the reality that we no longer have a buffer as a President to shield us from the innumerable schisms and inequalities that run rampant in the American system of government.

This political exposition was more exposure than election. We have been exposed to the reality that not only do we have this kind of thinking among our citizenship but in every crevice of our legislative, judicial and executive government. Who better to lead a mess like this American system than those, like the President-elect, who promulgate its very existence.

Perhaps any other candidate would only mask the heart-wrenching truth of the status of social dynamics in America. Black Lives Matter has been a rare example of a purposeful, just and equitable movement in an otherwise bipartisan American society; because it has risen in search of an ideal alternative to this reality.

We have been at a stand still since the 60’s, stuck wandering in the wilderness with those pointed fingers from the Lorraine Motel crime scene as our last sense of direction in an otherwise hopeless road towards civic union. Since brutal images and video evidence of our people strewn along the streets has not opened our eyes to the reality that our bitter history has resurfaced, maybe a leader who openly voices the silent sentiments of the American populous will prompt a significant shift in our country.

There is a repetitive nature to both American and biblical history. Biblical historical evidence traces periods where nations were led by individuals and entities who were in direct conflict with the common good, nevertheless, those nations submitted to higher orders of authority that erected a hedge of protection and provision. Many kings and rulers of biblical antiquity have made abrupt stops and turns while in office.

Even American leaders have been forced to shift platforms, agendas and rhetoric, crossing the lines of political affiliations to reach a more perfect union. I truly believe that there is an order that exceeds political hierarchy. This order can manifest in the social and economic structures of our community, but it is ultimately the God we trust in so earnestly who will not allow the progress made to be uprooted by the work of men. There will be a turning of hearts again toward sound principles that serve the whole rather than the few.

God’s presence is clearest at the apex of our existence. Donald Trump has been afforded one success after another reaching a climax in his life. There’s nothing left for this man to do now but to turn to God, otherwise he’s going to succumb to the existential emptiness that accomplishment brings. It is at this great turning point where God waits patiently to turn even the darkest of hearts into weaponry for the kingdom. Our prayer should be that God adopts Trump into his eternal arsenal as a tool to progress a kingdom agenda rather than an earthly empire of corruption.

This will inevitably mark the resurgence of the church. Whenever those in power conflict with an undeserved community, that group will turn towards institutions like church and family which indeed supersede government. Sadly, it often comes to moments like these for even those who identify as believers to pay God our debt of attention.

Most candidates overstate and hyperbolise what they will bring to the Oval Office, in order to win votes. But the reality of a presidency is that of responsibility, unity and considered responses when leading a nation, Let’s hope that Trump will now assume the role of a true leader and instead of delivering on his campaign promises, turn his heart and mind toward truly healing the divisions amongst the American public.
