24 years ago, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs changed the game, forming Bad Boys Entertainment. If you didn’t believe him in the 90s when he said “I thought I told ya’ll that we won’t stop,” he reminds you of why you should in Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, a musical journey that tells us where it all started for the man with a mission to make it.  This film captures the vision, the determination and the journey toward an empire that has not only made us dance, but will inspire you to get on your grind and fight to make your dreams come true.

In the film, Diddy, who attributes all of his name changes to his many personalities and “whoever comes downstairs in the morning,”, takes us through his journey that started as a little boy in Harlem, New York with the heart of a true hustler. He recalls growing up, sitting on his stoop watching his neighbors play in a pool he was never invited to.  This was motivation for him to get his own pool. Diddy reminds us to find motivation in what seems to be disadvantages in our lives.

Can’t Stop Won’t Stop teaches us to use determination to reach our dream destination. Young Puffy knew he wanted to work in the music industry, so he worked day in and day out as an intern for Uptown Records, before ultimately becoming the talent director and helping to jumpstart the careers of artists such as Jodeci and Mary J Blige. Just another gem to take from Puffy, when you put in the work, you can place yourself where you want to be. Most people don’t want to take internship work or have a “I don’t work for free” attitude before they can even place their feet in the door. When you are passionate about something you’ll take whatever steps you need to take to make it a living.

This musical journey that Diddy takes us on also teaches us the importance of moving forward and refusing to stay complacent. In Diddy’s case, his manager saw something in him that was bigger than Uptown Records. Andre Harell, founder of Uptown records, says “Puff was so big, it was time for him to do his own thing.” It was in this moment in which Diddy was fired from Uptown that he went on to form Bad Boy Entertainment, one of his first signed acts being the renowned Notorious B.I.G.

One of the greatest lessons we can learn from this film is humility. When we refuse to be humble and life does it for us, we must keep pressing. There were many moments on Diddy’s climb to the top that should have convinced him to stop, but he didn’t. He persevered, and he has gone on to become one of the greatest moguls in hip-hop.

This year Forbes estimated his net worth to be at $820 million, but beyond the money, Diddy has gone on to hold the titles of rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, record producer, entrepreneur, CEO and chairman. Can’t Stop Won’t Stop is the story of the vision, the struggle and the triumphs of Bad Boy Entertainment. Diddy has used this film to motivate and push us to not only chase our dreams, but fulfill them and even go beyond that dream. He reminds us that as young black men and women we too can have the big pool, we too can live the American dream and be whoever and whatever we want to be. Diddy released Can’t Stop Won’t Stop on Apple Music in late June and since then it has become No. 1 on the iTunes charts and can now be streamed worldwide. Be prepared to laugh, dance and most importantly be motivated to get up and get to it, Diddy- bopping through the pressure as it comes along.
