Haters are gonna hate, but with a presidency spanning eight years, there is a lot Barack Obama accomplished and it is only right we take the time to really reflect and appreciate the caliber of president, and fabric of man he was.

President Obama has fixed a few things here and there. When Obama took office, the economy was in a downturn. There were multiple ways he approached this.

The president signed a $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009 to start economic growth back up. He passed the Wall Street Reform Act, which regulated the financial sector, since the big banks had a major part in the recession. He also recapitalized the banks. The Treasury Department could question the banks and allowed them to get back on their feet. Obama also turned around the auto industry by injecting $462 billion into GM and Chrysler, in return they would do major restructuring. He then kicked banks out of the Federal Student Loan Program, leaving that to the government and helping many students with debt. These were not even all of the economic approaches President Obama took, but he was finally able to get America out of the recession and back on stable footing.

The president has also done a few things to make things better for Americans. Through passing laws and destroying laws, he has made lives for some Americans safer.

One of most talked about things Obama has created is his health care act. Obamacare; as it is coined, finally got many Americans access to healthcare. The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, is just that, affordable. When health insurance became impossible to afford there came an option. President Obama also repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, allowing anyone; no matter their sexual orientation, an opportunity to openly serve in the military. He also legalized same sex marriage in the entire country. The president has also helped keep Americans safe through foreign affairs.

President Obama had eliminated one of America’s greatest threats, Osama Bin Laden, in 2011. He also passed the Iran nuclear deal, a great diplomatic act. With this act Iran is granted sanction relief in exchange for strict limits and monitoring of their nuclear program. Obama also thawed the icy relationship with Cuba. The president opened trade back up with the once restricted country. Through all his efforts, President Obama has changed how other countries view America as a whole.

Obama has not only tried to help people, but the earth too. The president started a fracking revolution, which led to the use of domestic oil and natural gas to surge. Wind and solar power have also seen growth, even if it still only six percent of electricity generation. The U.S also participated in the Paris Climate Agreement, stating that no matter what the new administration says, climate change is real.

Besides just the things a president gets done, Barack Obama has set a standard as what it is to be a man. Throughout eight years in the spotlight he has never once had a scandal. He has raised two talented daughters. Malia is going to attend Harvard and Obama stated in his farewell speech that “You are smart and you are beautiful but more importantly, you are kind and you are thoughtful — and you are full of passion. And bore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. “ He has made a great team with his wife, who has also accomplished very much in the past eight years. Never once has there been questioning of their loyalty to each other. President Barack Obama has ultimately set a standard of exactly what it is a president should be.
