Op-Ed: Why Hillary’s Email Scandal Does Not Matter

On October 28, 2016, James Comey- Director of the FBI, revealed in a letter to Congress that the bureau had discovered more information related to the previous investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while Secretary of State. Some of the emails sent on this server were filled with classified information. However, this does not mean the FBI is reopening the case against Clinton. And in a crunch time such as this, emails are not what should determine someone’s candidacy.

Clinton was not even the only White House staffer to use a private email server. The White House server is notoriously known for not being the most protected, it has been hacked many a time. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell and the senior staff of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also both used private email accounts. This whole “situation” is not even a situation. It is a way for Republicans to draw in votes. If Republicans can make voters think Clinton did something she should not have, again, they can discourage them from voting for her.

So, while everyone is scrambling to accost Clinton for emails, they are ignoring an actual criminal.

On December 16, Trump will go to court for a civil lawsuit filed against him. The lawsuit comes from a woman being named Jane Doe, who is accusing Trump of raping her when she was 13. Doe is not the first woman to come forward as one of Trump’s victims.

There have been multiple women coming forward with allegations of Donald Trump sexually assaulting them. Some of the accusations include raping his ex-wife, attempting to rape a former business associate, and raping underage girls. But these cases are being almost completely ignored. Trump is an actual criminal, but he gets to sweep it under the rug. Mostly thanks to his money and power.

In two of the cases mentioned above, the women changed their tune. Trump’s ex-wife; Ivana, changed her words from “rape” to “violated” when a tell-all book about Trump with her statements was released. The business partner settled the case out of court, but sticks to her word about how Trump attempted to rape her. But hopefully, come December 16, there will be justice for all the women Trump has allegedly sexually assaulted.

Trump’s criminal history and overall treatment of women has never been taken seriously. He has been recorded saying vulgar things about women, he has been accused of being derogatory, and he has been accused of rape. But he is never held accountable. His money, power, and childish behavior keep him safe. Yet, when a woman is accused of sending emails through a different server, everyone loses their minds.

Clinton does not have the mindset Trump does. She does not get angry when people tell her what she did wrong. She does not have the power Trump does. She does not have money like him and is not a man. If someone accuses her something, she will simply have to live with it.
